About Us: Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Responsibilities: • Identifies and locates housing options suitable for households as needed • Develops support systems to meet individual's needs; coordinates and facilitates move-in activities, rental negotiations, and service referrals as required • In conjunction with the Coordinator, computes rents based on financial information provided and established formulas and guidelines • Maintains working relationships with various community property management firms and property owners • Responsible for creating and maintaining a housing database linking tenants to apartments • Communicates with landlords and familiarize them with the CES, program and community resources to assist both tenants and landlords in the event of potential problems leading to eviction • Will coordinate follow-through services with case management team and conduct habitability and lead based paint inspections as requested • As a member of the program case management team, will provide information referrals, crisis intervention, and assistance with permanent housing placement to all participants and Case Managers • Provide outreach and engagement services to the literally homeless in the community, while specifically targeting the chronically homeless population • Conduct the VI-SPSDAT and other comprehensive screenings and assessments with homeless individuals to collect functional, environmental, employment housing, educational, and health information, as appropriate, to develop a case plan • Documents and maintains all case files in physical files, HMIS or other identified databases • Other duties as assigned Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field • Knowledge of domestic violence, poverty, and federally funded mainstream programs such General Relief, Social Security Disability • 1 - 3 years experience working with homeless families/individuals or people in recovery • Ability to develop relationships with families as well as a variety of service stakeholders (Schools, health and public benefit agencies) • Proficiency with Microsoft office; HMIS database experience strongly preferred Additional Requirements: • Effective written and oral communication skills; bilingual (Spanish) preferred • Valid California driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation VOALA is an Equal Opportunity Employer
