About Us: Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Learn more at Responsibilities: • Provides psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diverse backgrounds • Formulates and implements treatment plans identifying individual's goals, strengths, coping skills, and assistance needed • Basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities, and ability to implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals • Ability to utilize behavior therapy through harm reduction in maximizing gains through positive reinforcement and applying aversive consequences in non-punishing manner with unwanted behavior and using the therapeutic relationship as the major reinforcement to behavioral change • Basic knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disability, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; and medical terminology • Basic skill in the use of computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking. Ability to learn and utilize software (HMIS) Requirements: • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field • At least 2 years of relevant work experience • Must be comfortable working in the field in a variety of settings (hotels, motels, etc.) • Effective written and oral communications skills with people from varied backgrounds • Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to learn and use program-specific software • Valid California driver’s license and access to dependable transportation with adequate insurance Additional Requirements: • Coursework in substance use disorder counseling a plus • U.S. Armed Forces Veteran or experience working with Veterans preferred • At least 1 year in residential treatment setting preferred • Basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities, especially cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy skills training (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), relapse prevention (RP), Seeking Safety preferred • If recovering substance user, must have at least 3 years of sobriety VOALA is an Equal Opportunity Employer
