Overview + Position TitleProgram Assistant/Driver + Non-Exempt + + Responsible toCorps Commanding Officer + + + Education RequirementsHigh School diploma or GED equivalent + + + Work ExperiencePrevious driving employment experience preferred but not required. + + + Other Qualifications + + Must be 21 years old (or older) and have valid driver’s license with a good driving record + Bilingual (English and Spanish) skills are a plus but not required + Must be able to work as part of a team + Must be able to work unsupervised + Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds. + Must be able to communicate effectively in English + Must be flexible regarding hours + + Principal FunctionsAssist in the operation of various Corps and Social Ministries programs including driving official vehicles to transport goods and people of all age groups. + + + Duties and Responsibilities + + Pickup – drop off program participants for: + Sunday services + Wednesday Senior program + Seasonal Camp programs. + + Assist program participants with getting into/out of vehicles as necessary. + + Ensure all persons riding in Salvation Army vehicles wear seatbelts properly. + + Maintain program participant contact lists + + Contact program participants to determine if transportation is needed + Drive Salvation Army owned or rented vehicles to pick up food and other donations from + The food bank + Local grocery stores + Other places as required + + Assist in loading/unloading items transported. + Assist with seasonal driving needs (Red Kettle Campaign, Camp, etc.) + Refuel vehicles as necessary + Report all vehicle maintenance needs to Facilities Manager/Corps Officer + Ensure vehicles are securely locked and that transported items or personal items owned by program participants are not left behind. + Assist the Corps Officers and other staff/volunteers with the operation of various corps/social ministries program including: + Donated food distribution + Food Pantry + Seniors Program + Sunday Services + VBS + Kids Club + Christmas Distribution + Emergency Disaster Services + Represent The Salvation Army’s spiritual and social mission in the community at large. + Engage in Christian spiritual conversation with individuals in his/her sphere of influence if opportunity or need present themselves. + Recognize spiritual need of persons which may require referral to The Salvation Army officer who is an ordained minister of religion. + Perform other duties within the scope of the position + Job ID2017-3970 CategorySocial Services TypeRegular Part-Time
