Requisition Number 17-2458 Post Date 11/20/2017 Title CRG - Assistant Program Director City Scott Valley State CA Description POSITION: Assistant Program Director SUPERVISOR: Program Director and DYS DEPARTMENT: Camp Redwood Glen STATUS: Summer Camp OVERVIEW: Plan and implement ongoing skits used for nightly campfires, develop devotions to share with campers and staff, use the summer theme as a foundation for all summer planning which will help to encourage & develop the spiritual lives of campers, staff and self, and to assist the Program Director in the day to day life of camp. The additional responsibilities of the Assistant Program Director are to develop weekly schedules for camp staff, plan & organize evening programs, carnivals, & special events for campers, lead songs & skits, and to assist with all behavioral, spiritual, and social/emotional happenings of the campers and staff. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 1. Planning, organizing, and leading recreation programs for all campers & staff that are in line with the programs goals 2. Provide opportunities for campers & staff to fellowship & experience success 3. Responsible for overseeing cleanliness and neatness of the REC closet, baseball field, basketball court, playground, campfire storage closets and overall cleanliness of camp 4. Responsible for the raising & lowering of the flag at the start and close of each day 5. Maintain good organization of recreation supplies & ensure that materials are not wasted or misused and returned when borrowed. 6. Participate and actively participate in the spiritual formation of campers & staff 7. Responsible for preparing program areas prior to the program start time (electives, AIR time, Campfires, free time areas, etc.) 8. Conduct inventory prior to the first day of camp: maintain inventory for equipment and supply needs, turn in requests to Program Director 9. Conduct an inventory at the close of camp: provide camp administration with a list of recreation equipment to assist in purchasing supplies for the following summer 10. Provide creative ideas and recreation supplies for special programs (such as a fair, circus, etc.), working closely with the Program Director to determine needs and implementation 11. Assume responsibility for supervision and instruction for Salvation Army Program’s (badge classes & Music/art classes) as assigned by program schedule 12. Maintain a high standard of safety, developing rules for conduct in program area 13. Assist the Program Director in all areas, including: flagpole ceremonies, campfires, campouts, announcements, scheduling, classes, and staff direction. 14. Assist with the opening & closing day procedures as requested by the Program or Camp Director 15. Prepare and actively participate in all Evening Programs 16. Assist the Camp Director in any other duty as requested in order to maintain a consistently high level of efficiency in the operation of the camp. 17. Responsible for planning and implementing fun & exciting large group games for campers & staff of varying ages 18. Lead & teach camp songs, plan evening campfires, ability to 19. Work alongside counselors and other program staff to teach new games and songs. 20. Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp. You are expected to join in all evening programs; absences are excused only through the Program Director. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be at least 18 years of age 2. Must have interest, knowledge, and skills in Recreation 3. Must be comfortable in front of crowds & leading large group activities 4. Must have the ability to teach others, particularly young children & staff (8-18) 5.
