Requisition Number 17-2474 Post Date 11/21/2017 Title CRG - OAC Assistant Director City Scotts Valley State CA Description OVERVIEW: The Assistant Director is the OAC Directors “right hand”. You are responsible for supporting the Director in the planning of multi-day backpacking trips, daily devotions, and using each teachable moment to point campers to the God of it all. The objective of the OAC Assistant Director is that you facilitate high and low ropes courses, teach & lead in the areas of safety, nature and spiritual development, and possess excellent leadership skills. Previous work with teens, backpacking, and camp will be essential. Skills should include: topo map reading & orienteering. A lifeguard certification is required for either the Director or Assistant Director. Must have current Wilderness First Aid certification & CPR. Wilderness First Responder preferred. Must be comfortable living in a “rugged” setting. DUTIES: I. As a staff leader 1. Provide continuous supervision for the counselors and campers ensuring their health and safety, providing fun and educational experiences, and sharing their knowledge of and commitment to Jesus Christ 2. Encourage camper participation in all aspects of the program 3. Lead small group prayer and discussion times, prepare and share small group devotions 4. Set goals and enforce standards of safety and conduct within group 5. Spend time with, befriend, and interact with all the campers and staff to create a fun and loving experience for them 6. Spend time one-on-one with staff and campers as appropriate in the group context 7. Be an appropriate example for both campers and staff of a committed and growing follower of Christ 8. Collaborate with Outdoor Adventure Program supervisor/assist OAC Director to complete midsummer and end of summer evaluations for all OAC staff 9. Ensure that camper surveys and spiritual well-being cards are completed each week 10. Offer suggestions to improve OAC program to the OAC Supervisor 11. Collaborate with other OAC Staff to facilitate safe & effective low & high ropes courses II. As a trip co-leader… 1. Do trip preparation and clean up 2. Take responsibility for the well-being and safety of all members of the group 3. Implement the goals and program for each trip 4. Competently instruct campers in wilderness skills 5. Assess trip demands such as weather, time, and the individual’s physical condition 6. Perform any and all additional duties III. As a staff member… 1. Participate in staff meetings and prayer 2. Communicate any and all needs with the OAC Director & OAC Supervisor 3. Be supportive of fellow staff members and pray with and for them regularly 4. Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor. 5. Assist the Camp Director in any other duty as requested in order to maintain a consistently high level of efficiency in the operation of the camp. All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp. All staff are expected to be involved in the total camp program. You are expected to join in all evening programs, absences are excused only through the Program Director. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be totally committed to Jesus as their Lord and Savior and demonstrates a growing Christian life by modeling Christ-like behavior consistent to Biblical principles 2. Must have a heart for teenagers and a compassion for youth culture 3. Must have experience backpacking for multiple days in a wilderness setting 4. Must be flexible and teachable, able to work with supervisors, peers, and campers. 5. Must be in good physical condition and able to perform all the functions of the job. 6. Must be at least 21 years of age by beginning of summer. 7. Must have current Wilderness First Aid certification & CPR. Wilderness First Responder preferred. 8. Must have experience in the camp world, either in Summer Camps, Outdoor Education, or Wilderness Therapy PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. 2. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and tools 3. Ability to lift up to 35lbs 4.
