JOB SUMMARY: To lead or assist in all corps programs. To assist the corps in outreach to the community, help to link families of other Salvation Army programs into corps life and ministries. To lead and serve the youth and young adults in their perspective programs. To assist Kauluwela Corps Officers in fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army as expressed through our corps programs and activities. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS • Valid driver’s license. • Minimum 21 years of Age to meet The Salvation Army’s age requirements for drivers. • High school diploma a must, some successful college experience preferred. • Experience working with youth in church and or camp settings, preferably within The Salvation Army. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Provide quality youth Christian education leadership. Includes working with teachers, various volunteers, families, officers and others to provide quality Christian Education opportunities in corps youth programming. • Troop and outreach programs implementation and coordination. Including, but not limited to Girl Guards, Sunbeams and Adventure corps. • Pacific Islanders Education and Assimilation. • Corps Administrative support. • Full involvement in Salvation Army Christmas season activities including Red Kettles and Angel Tree. • Safety and Security of Youth through Protect the Mission and Property monitoring. Includes being aware of visitors on the property, especially when children are present. Supervision of minors and directing of volunteers working with minors on the premises and during organized off premises activities. Requires living on the property, at the convenience of The Salvation Army, and being available to call the corps officer and/or police if there are known trespassers or property emergencies after hours. Be on the alarm company call list and able to meet with police for alarm calls. Verify that doors and gates are locked nightly. Verify that alarms are set nightly. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Driving Salvation Army vehicles as part of essential functions. Other duties as assigned MENTAL DEMANDS: • Work under stressful conditions • Interact with others with courtesy and tact • Manage and prioritize multiple projects in an organized and efficient manner to meet tight deadlines • Respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner • Complete projects on schedule • Maintain confidentiality • Maintain regular and punctual work attendance PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephones; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: • Valid driver’s license. • Travel off-island as necessary • Training in Protect The Mission policies and practices will be required • Salvation Army Decision Driving Course is required. EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Use office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc. DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work will be The Salvation Army Kauluwela corps. Some activities will include work with youth at different locations on Oahu. Attendance at trainings and conferences both in Hawaii and on the mainland may be required.
