Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates. The clinical pharmacology, modeling and simulation department at Amgen is a multidisciplinary group working across multiple stages of drug development. The selected candidate will quantitatively characterize the time course and the inherent trial-to-trial heterogeneity of placebo response across Phase 1 studies using a database of Amgen clinical trial data. Understanding placebo response is important for designing randomized controlled trials and building informed models to simulate outcomes, including probability of success, of subsequent dose ranging and confirmatory studies. Further uses of the analyses may include exploring disease or treatment specific questions, such as the impact of corticosteroid treatment on baseline biomarkers, or safety and efficacy event rates, and their severity, in placebo treated subjects in oncology and inflammation studies. **Basic Qualifications** Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 18 years or older Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent Completion as a second year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a PhD program from an accredited college or university Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment Must not be employed at the time the internship starts **Preferred Qualifications** Currently pursuing PhD in Engineering, Life Sciences, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field Proficiency in data analysis and time-series modeling software (R, Python, Matlab) Interest in dynamic modeling methods (regression, optimization, clustering, non-linear mixed effects) Intellectual curiosity with the ability to rapidly learn new concepts, algorithms, and technologies Strong organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills Experience with manipulation, interpretation, and innovative analysis (e.g. novel algorithm development) of large datasets. **_Amgen is an Equal Opportunity employer and will consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability status._** Only candidates who apply via mgen.com/ will be considered.
