CENTERLESS GRINDER OPERATOR Job Type:Temporary Location:Torrance, CA Post Date:01/13/2016 Job Description:SUMMARYThe Centerless Grinder Operator individual performs the set up and operates precision grinding equipment to grind lot parts in accordance with established shop practices. Performs work operations under supervision.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation for disabilities may be made for one or more of the following:• Performs minor set ups and set up modifications in the operation of precision grinding machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, router package, specifications and/or special instructions.• Starts and operates machine operation to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls or control media as required.• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.• Checks parts for conformance to specifications using gauges, SPC and shop floor system.• Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning and in-process inspections. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor.• Dresses and re-dresses grinding wheel for a given Cam configuration• May be required to give feedback to Manufacturing team, Engineering Team or others to document procedures and drawings.• Identifies machine malfunctions and reports to supervision• Checks tooling and notifies supervisor if tooling in non-conforming• Able to read router and operation drawings to determine machining dimensions and requirements• Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards, by following blueprints or work instructions.• Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows all safety regulations.• Adheres to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, practices, and procedures.• Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.• Responsibility for complying with ISO 14001standards, aspects, directives and impact as related to the HSE policy commitments.• Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times.• Required to identify and alert any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.• Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.• Implements and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as EMS and recycling opportunities to elimination of production waste• Works under supervision with a limited degree of creativity and latitude is required.• Performs a variety of other related duties as assigned.Ways of working, Experience, and BehaviorsTo perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:• Analytical - Collects and researches data; Uses experience to complement data; understands the work flows and procedures, production control, and knowledge of continuous improvement.• Technical Skills – Understands and has working knowledge of the manufacturing production control and use of CL Grinding machinery operation process, procedures and function; use and understand basic computer entry and processing skills.• Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens intently to others and seeks clarification; Provides clear and pleasant responses to inquires regardless of the situation.• Team Work - Balances team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Places success of team above own interests; Able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives;• Business Acumen - Understands business implications of decisions;• Cost Consciousness - Works within directions of the department’s resources.• Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.• Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities of self and others; Uses time efficiently; Plans for resources in a creative way only adding cost as absolutely necessary; Sets goals and objectives; Organizes or schedules other people and their tasks; Develops realistic action plans.• Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.May assist in the technical coaching of trainees &/or operators.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIESEducation and/or Experience• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).• Working experience of manufacturing environment procedures• Minimum of 1-3 years Centerless Grinding experience and/or training within an Aerospace fastener manufacturing &/or industrial shop; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organizationMathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of basic shop math. Ability to calculate in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurement, volume, and distanceReasoning AbilityAbility to comprehend detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
