CNC MACHINIST Job Type:Temporary Location:Torrance, CA Post Date:03/11/2016 Job Description:SUMMARYThe CNC Machinist maximizes efficiency through the operation process and observes multiple CNC Mills and Lathes that use single or multiple spindles with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock for the manufacture of various types of medical products. Processes methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation for disabilities may be made for one or more of the following:• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed and feed.• Observes operation is to specification on CNC machine to produce various types of medical products.• Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences. Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.• Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.• Remove and replace dull cutting tools.• Perform preventive maintenance as outlined on the Preventive Maintenance Form.• Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.• Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.• Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.• Lift work pieces to machines manually or with the use of hand tools.• Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.• Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.• Prepares and verifies production machine operations on trial run to ensure accuracy of machine settings.• Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.• Recognizes improper machine functioning and recognizes defects in machinery, measuring instruments or equipment. Notifies or informs lead or immediate supervisor when machine maintenance is needed.• Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks per specification, Mastercam (CAM software) and acts in accordance with output and demonstrates knowledge and use of Shop Floor Systems.• Reads & studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work-piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.• Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor.• Provide necessary information to Manufacturing team, Engineering Team or others to document procedures and drawings.• Identifies, disassembles and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.• Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.• Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.• Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams.• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.• Works directly with all levels in the organization including, management/supervision on continuous improvement efforts regarding machines, components and manufacturing systems.• Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to supervisor or lead.• All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Medical, and HSE Procedures.• All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.• All employees are required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.• Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.• Works under general supervision with a certain degree of latitude as required.• May assist and/or suggest waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as production material recycle or removal opportunities.• Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.• Performs a variety of other related duties as assigned.Ways of working, Experience, and BehaviorsTo perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:• Analytical - Synthesizes information; Collects and researches data; Uses experience to complement data; understands the work flows and procedures.• Technical Skills – Comprehends manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly and production equipment.• Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens intently to others and seeks clarification; Provides clear and pleasant responses to inquires regardless of the situation.
