Six months' patient registration experience preferred. TESTING/COMPETENCY Testing required: Data Entry KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Required: * Working knowledge of personal computer and communications technology. * MS Word - basic knowledge * Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written formats. * Medical Terminology * Data Entry - intermediate knowledge Preferred: * Excel - basic knowledge Additional information on Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required: Knowledge of computer, keyboard, mouse and monitor. Basic knowledge of MS Word and MS Windows. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with all customers. Experience with cashiering function. Knowledge of medical terminology. Good data entry skills. Preferred: Knowledge of MS Excel and MS Outlook. HEARING/VISION: * Hear and differentiate low volume sounds in order to make judgments regarding actions needed * Hear alarm bells, verbal conversations, telephone voices and normal volume sounds * Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) * Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT * Annual flu shot * Annual TB test (if applicable to your job location) * Annual CBLs (Safety at Work and Corporate Compliance) * Maintain licensure/certification/registry/listing (if applicable to your job) ## Job Description JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to pre-register and register all patients needing services. The role is responsible for obtaining accurate and complete demographic, financial, and medical information. The person performing this role anticipates and acts on the needs of our customers to enhance the patient experience. MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES: Obtains and accurately enters required information for registration into the electronic health system. Follows prescribed procedures for positive identification and medical record number assignment, so no duplication or wrong patient registrations occur. Reviews demographic and insurance information for completeness, and follows through with correcting any deficiencies, so collection efforts are not delayed due to insufficient or incorrect information. (30%) Ensures accurate and complete information is obtained by completing all registration edits including and not limited to: RQI Edits, registration system edits, and report edits. (20%) Ensures all appropriate signatures are obtained and forms completed including and not limited to the following: Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire, Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver), HIPAA Privacy Notice, AOB (Assignment of Benefits), etc. Provides information and/or handouts and answers questions on patient rights and responsibilities, HIPAA Privacy Notice, and any financial assistance documentation. (10%) Completes and/or ensures verification of insurance, completes notifications of admission for emergency inpatients, reviews to ensure pre-certification and authorizations are in place for scheduled patients. (10%) Collects required patient financial liability upon arrival and documents the outcome of the point of service collection efforts. (20%) Consistently displays good customer service behaviors to all patients and visitor to promote positive patient experiences. Assists patients to their destination as needed. (10%) PATIENT POPULATION SERVED Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric WORKING CONDITIONS: Occurs under one-third of the time: * Exposure to bloodborne pathogens * Hazardous waste and/or toxic/caustic chemicals * Fumes or airborne particles Additional information on working conditions Position may involve working holidays, different shifts, rotating weekends, inclement weather and stressful situations. Position may require sitting for long periods of time. Requires the ability to push, pull and maneuver medical equipment such as wheelchairs to assist patients to their destinations.
